Coasts of estonia

Estonia has a long and curvy coastline of approximately 3,800 km. More than 2,500 km of it is made up of the shoreline of about 1,500 islands and islets. The seashore of Estonia differs to a great extent from the coast of Finland with granite rocks and from sandy beaches of Estonia's southern neighbours. The real treasure of North Estonia is the limestone cliff. West Estonian coasts are very diverse. Northwestern Estonia is subject to crustal uplift of about 3 mm per year. As a result, islets turn into peninsulas, bays into coastal lakes and shallow marine areas into coastal meadows. Abundant coastal wetlands attract large numbers of waterfowl. Estonian coastal sea provides good habitats for seals. About one fifth of the Baltic Sea seal population (7,500 individuals) rests here.
